Adding Grant Presets to your Plans

You can create presets for parameters that are repeated across the grants in one plan. With that, you can better control the accuracy and speed up the import process.

Adding a plan preset can be done when first creating a plan or by editing the plan. Presets are then applied to every new grant added to the plan from the time the preset was set in Ledgy (either in the creation or in editing).

Creating a plan with a preset:

  1. Go to the Equity Plans > Pools page

  2. Click on the Add pool button on the top right corner and a new window will appear

  3. Go to Equity plans > Plans page and add a Plan

  4. Under Presets fill out the relevant fields

    • Strike Price and Purchase Price:

These are optional fields that can be filled in for all the new grants added to the pool. If the strike price or the purchase price is not the same for every grant in the pool, it is best to specify these individually in the bulk import, or when adding the individual grant (this is also best for grants that would have a different currency).

    • Documents, three toggles:

      • "Create documents from grant templates": Click the toggle (green) if you would like to create documents for each grant imported after this preset is selected, which will then also be attached to each grant transaction. You can select or upload the template directly on the equity plan.
      • "Prepare signature requests for template documents": Click the toggle (green) if you would like to prepare signature requests for each of the documents created from templates for the grants imported after this preset is selected. For this toggle to work, the toggle "Create documents from grant templates" must be on as well. The document will be created from the template, attached to the transaction and sent to signature requests board in Documents > Signatures. For more on how signature requests work, go to this help article.
      • "Attach pool documents to grant": Click the toggle (green) if you would like to attach the documents attached to the pool, to also be attached to the grants imported after this preset is selected. For this toggle to work, there needs to be a document attached in the "Documents" section of the pool.
    • Vesting:

Here you can select the vesting schedule to be given to each grant added after the preset is selected. This is applicable to all three types of vesting available: time (simple), time (custom) and performance vesting.

Note that when using template to bulk import grants with custom vesting (time custom and performance vesting), the vesting start date is individually optional and the vesting duration, interval, cliff, and rounding are combined optional. If these parameters have been provided in the import template, they will override the preset; if these parameters have been left blank, the presets will apply.

  5. Click Save

  6. Import grants using either the bulk import or the individual grant import, and the presets selected will be added to the newly imported grants. See more on importing grants, here.

Editing a plan to have a preset:

  1. Go to the Equity Plans > Plans page

  2. Find the plan you would like to edit and click on the Three Dot Menu > Edit initial plan

  3. Click on the Grant presets drop-down, select the relevant toggles and fill in the relevant fields as described above

  4. Click Save

  5. Import grants using either the bulk import or the individual grant import, and the presets selected will be added to the newly imported grants. See more on importing grants, here.

Note that the presets are not applied retroactively, so if there are already grants that were imported in this pool, the presets will not be applied to them. The presets are only applied to all new imports occurring from immediately after the presets are saved.

When are presets helpful?

Ledgy's plan presets make it easier to import one or many grants by letting you select certain parameters that apply to all the new grants imported coming from that plan.

This is especially helpful when bulk importing grants that need to go through document templating and signature workflows so that documents and signatures get prepared automatically.

It can also be helpful if you have special vesting (i.e. not simple time-based vesting) that can be applied to all the grants in the plan without having to edit each grant one by one.

If there are individual grants for which the selected presets do not apply, the presets can easily be overridden by specifying the grant parameters while importing these grants individually.

These presets are rather there to help when the majority of grants to be imported have the same parameter that otherwise might have to be added to each grant one by one.
